It’s about time for the yearly blog update!
So the end of 2009 was sort of crap. I got laid off, and have remained unemployed. A brutal job market and my over-generalized skills are probably what is preventing me from getting employed currently. I’m doing my best to stay positive, though.
I’ve been keeping up nerdy pursuits, gaming and a bit of photography. A good side effect of being unemployed is that I’ve spent more time with my family, and have gotten to go to a couple of really good concerts thanks to the generosity of friends!
I’ve also had time to catch up with several TV shows… OZ, The Shield, Battlestar Galactica and Top Gear are amongst the current fare.
…And I’ve completely run out of things to say. It’s amazing that I keep a blog at all!

Oh god, where to begin. Am I even the same person that posted on this blog in `06 and `08?
So I’ve gained a crippling DVD addiction, upgraded my home theater, taken up photography again (Visit the gallery!) and blah blah blah…
Stuff has happened. I’m not sure all of it is positive, but I can’t change that.
I’ve started going out to clubs again. For some reason it makes me want to stay home even more. But I’ve been a hermit for long enough, I guess.
Jeez, I’m a rambling sod today.

Sure, I like the earth. It’s a neat place! But sitting in the dark for an hour to “save” it seems like a bad time to me. I imagine that there are a lot of Australians in Melbourne laughing at us right now… Turning off our lights at 8 in the evening! They probably spent their hour

Wow. Over a year since the last post. That’s a serious bit of neglect!
As one can probably guess, lots of things have changed since the last post! I have gained a new console (an Xbox 360) and enjoy it immensley,

So things have been changing rapidly! I have moved, purchased a Nintendo DS, become a full-fledged NOC Analyst and gained a crippling Guitar Hero addiction!
DVDs that rule currently:
Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law (Season 1)
Aqua Teen Hunger Force (Season 1)
This Is Spinal Tap.
Aside from this, I have no real news for my living blog… I continue to exist and consume, and search for peace and happiness.
Until next time,
Ciao!

As of tonight, I’m on a week’s vacation to my Grandparent’s cottage in Manomet Massachusetts. (In the Google map picture, it’s the little gray square closest to the sout-western corner of Scooks Pond) I haven’t been to the Cottage in 6 years, and I’m quite exicted to be going again. It’s strange… I haven’t been in so long, but I can still remember the smell of the place… the salt tang in the air. The crappy dirt road leading up to the cottage. The smell of Honeysuckle growing by the pond.
So, on Saturday morning, iolarah and I start the 10+ hour trip (with my parents) to Massachusetts. I want to be there now.

Man. I can’t believe how behind I am in posing movie impressions!
Two weeks ago (on opening night) I saw Superman Returns with a good friend. Short review with no spoilers: I loved it. They really captured the feel and the characterizations were great! Definatly a see-in-the-movie-theaters movie.
Last night I saw A Scanner Darkly with a co-worker. This has to be one of the best book-to-film movies that I’ve ever seen. The paranoid tone of the book was preserved intact, as was the humor and sadness conveyed by the characters. Several of my favorite parts of the book are rendered perfectly by the cast. Which is another thing: I loved the casting. Robert Downey Junior and Woody Harrelson as burnt-out drug addicts isn’t a stretch, but even Keanu was good. Very surprising. The strange style of animation really suits the movie, once you get used to it. All and all it is a very brilliant and dark movie by Richard Linklater.
For anyone who likes Philip K. Dick in Toronto, go see A Scanner Darkly at the Varsity theater. It’s 100% worth the price of admission.

After re-watching the last season of The Venture Brothers on DVD recently, I managed to snag the first episode of the new season. Hot damn!
To anyone who enjoyed the first season, YOU MUST SEE THIS!

iolarah and I went to an empty parking lot last night so I can brush up on my skateboarding techniques (ie: Not falling over, turning, etc.) It went quite satisfactorily, as I didn’t land on my ass once! The only issue seems to be that either a) my deck is warped or b) my trucks are wonky. The board had a definite list to the left, and we have no explanation for that. I have to go get longer screws to secure my trucks properly, so while I’m at the store (either Hogtown or So Hip It Hurts) I’ll see if they know why my board is being weird.

Some days the walk to work really pays off. In entertainment, that is.
My workplace is at the corner of Carlton and Jarvis (for those that don’t know.) As I was walking along Carlton, I see a very wet and bedraggled someone at the corner of Carlton and Church. Once I get closer I can see that the person is rifling through a bag at their feet, pulling out soaked clothes and shoes, then stuffing them back in. It turns out that the person is a male-female transvestite.
Now this on it’s own wouldn’t be post-worthy in the least, but what happened next is.
I managed to miss the light at Church, so I had to wait for the next cycle. Every time a car passed the corner heading south along Church, the transvestite (let’s call her Sally) would drop the bag that she was holding, thrust her pelvis out at the car and put her hands on her hips. Once the car had passed, she would bend over to pick up her bag and let out a hoarse “WOOOOO!” This happened every time a car passed. Every. Time.
As I crossed the street, I could still hear Sally saying “WOOOO!” as she tried for better luck with the traffic on Carlton.
Wooo!
