Festival Lust.

Posted in Concerts, Life, Music at 11:10 am by Jamie

Today I caught a gander of the World Electronic Music Festival poster on my way to work. I saw that John “00″ Flemming was headlining one of the stages and my interest was piqued. Upon visiting the official site (http://www.wemf.com) I was blessed with awesome DnB (“Nero” by Reqiuim) and some mind-blowing lineups. The Hardsound stage has DJ Neophyte (ZOMG), and the DnB stage has Grooverider along with the laundry list of awesome DJs on the other stages. I was in love.

Then reality hit. At $75 (if you get tickets before July 2) per person for 3 days (including a camping spot), it’s a bit steep. The other major problem is that it occurs on Wednesday-Thursday-Friday instead of the standard Friday-Saturday-Sunday Okay, I am HURRtastic today… I was looking at the calendar for June. The festival takes place on the Friday-Saturday-Sunday. That’s a big Boo-urns. It also occurs the week *after* I go to my parents cottage for a week, which kills any possibility of time off for me.

So I’ll console myself with DnB and plan on going to some local outdoor shows (if they are still happening, that is.)

It’s worth visiting the WEMF page just to listen to track 2 (The music controls are in the top left hand side of the screen after the splash page) as it kicks ass.

The weekend!

Posted in Activities, Friends, Life, Movies at 11:46 am by Jamie

What a busy weekend! It started on Friday night with a small celebratory dinner at Gothjen and __Flatline__‘s place in honor of Margrock‘s birthday. Much merriment was made, although iolarah had to leave early to finish off a cake for her step-sister-in-law’s Baby Shower.

Handy DIY Project

Posted in Life, Patio at 11:31 am by Jamie

Here’s a handy thing for hot days on the patio: a DIY outdoor mist cooling system! Apparently it can lower the temperature by up to 7 degrees via mist evaporation!

And more time on the patio is NEVER a bad thing :)

District B13

Posted in Life, Movies at 9:20 am by Jamie

Last night iolarah and I watched District B13, a French movie co-written by Luc Besson. And WOW what a movie!

I will probably rank this as one of the best pure action movies that I’ve seen recently, behind Ong-Bak and ahead of The Transporter. It was very stylish, had great music and was paced so well that at the end of the movie iolarah asked me how long the film was. When I told her that it was an hour and twenty one minutes, she looked shocked ;)

I highly recommend seeing this movie if you enjoy action movies.

So today is the National Day Of Slayer, and I’m celebrating as best I can. I have a Slayer t-shirt on, Reign In Blood in my portable CD player (dug out for today just for that purpose), and a large playlist of Slayer on my desktop at work!

I encourage everyone to go out and listen to a little slayer on this, a once-in-a-lifetime day.

Introducing my skateboard

Posted in Activities, Life, Skateboard at 11:42 am by Jamie

So last year iolarah and I were talking about how cool it would be if I could find a cheap skateboard so we could go ride together. I think it was the next day that we were walking down Queen Street through Parkdale when we came across a sidewalk garage sale. Lo and behold, a skateboard was there. It was sort of crappy (there was no grip tape on the top… it had been spray painted silver) but the $10 asking price was fine. I don’t have a picture of the board as it was when we bought it, but it looked like this only in blue.

So we bought it and brought it home, and found out that it rode like crap (bearings) and the trucks were designed for 90lb children. Off to So Hip It Hurts (warning: Site is 2000% flash and has no *real* information). I picked up a pair of Royal Evolution Trucks (in the no-longer manufactured “Rasta” colourings) and had the top of the deck grip taped. It rode a bit better, but the wheels were worn in a very odd manner, and the bearings were still crap. Cut to the weekend before last. iolarah needed some new bearings, and I needed new bearings and wheels, so we headed off to So Hip It Hurts again. We grabbed ATM ABEC 5 Skateboard bearings for both of our boards, and I also nabbed some size 54 wheels.

As the guy put the new bearings on our boards, iolarah suggested that I get “Splatter Guy” (Mike Parsons) to paint my board. This was the best idea ever, as far as I was concerned. I *love* Mike’s work, and having him paint my skateboard would be awesome! I managed to find Mike that day (He usually is found on Queen St. past Spadina, in front of the 360) and asked him if he would be interested in me commissioning him to paint my board. He thought this was an awesome idea! It turns out that he used to paint his boards back when he used to skate. Fast-forward to this weekend, I got to watch Mike paint the board up (he was really busy during the week.) He enjoyed doing it so much, he said he was thinking about buying up some boards and painting them up as a regular thing!

Yesterday I stopped by Hogtown Extreme Sports to pick up some Lucky Riser Pads to take the strain off the wood on the bottom of the board. Then I assembled the beast :D Pictures after the jump!

Welcome to Jamie’s Blogotopia!

Posted in Life at 11:15 am by Jamie

I’ve decided to separate my blogs a bit. I still have my nerdblog about things that are happening with Scummbox.org (the main hosting box), World Of Warcrack and other various and sundry nerd things. This blog will be more about life, the universe and everything. Perhaps I’ll add a category for books that I like, videos that I enjoy, Role Playing games that are fun, etc. More about the meat that sits in front of the monitor.

So sit down, get comfortable, and be prepared for infrequent (if my other blog is any indication) posts about things you may or may not care about!
